Proudly Launching the HF1200 High-Performance Superconducting Tape for Nuclear Fusion, with Major Breakthroughs in Key Performance Indicators
From September 20 to 26, 2025, the 17th European Conference on Applied Superconductivity (EUCAS 2025) – the annual grand event in the global superconductivity field – was successfully held in Porto, Portugal. As a pioneer in China's second-generation high-temperature superconducting (2G-HTS) tape industry, Eastern Superconductivity Technology (Suzhou) Co., Ltd. ("Eastern Superconductivity" for short), a subsidiary of Yongding Co., Ltd., participated in the conference with its core technological achievements, and its breakthrough progress attracted great attention from international counterparts.

During the conference, Eastern Superconductivity delivered an academic report entitled "New Breakthroughs in Industrialization Performance Indicators of 2G-HTS for Controlled Nuclear Fusion Based on MOCVD Technology", and officially launched the HF1200 model – a product from the HF series of Eastern Superconductivity's 2G-HTS dedicated to low-temperature and high-field environments. Developed by the team led by Dr. Chen Yimin, an authoritative expert in superconductivity, after more than one year of research, this product is a kilometer-class REBCO superconducting tape suitable for controlled nuclear fusion scenarios. Its core performance indicators, verified by tests, are as follows: the 12mm-wide HF1200 tape with a length of 1107 meters has an average critical current (Average Ic) of 424A at 77K and 0T, with a standard deviation of only 8.8A, demonstrating extremely high performance stability. Through testing with a Physical Property Measurement System (PPMS) and extrapolation calculation, the critical currents of the samples taken from both ends of the tape reached 1299A and 1340A respectively under the conditions of 20K, 20T, and magnetic field parallel to the c-axis (B∥c). This indicator represents a historic major breakthrough among the mass-producible REBCO tapes reported in existing literature.

Since its establishment, Eastern Superconductivity has been committed to the R&D and industrialization of 2G-HTS tapes and related application products. It has now realized the localization of the entire industrial chain for tape preparation with completely independent intellectual property rights. Among them, the key material – Hastelloy tape – has been covered by a strategic joint R&D framework agreement signed with the Institute of Metal Research, Chinese Academy of Sciences, and mass supply has been achieved. Currently, Eastern Superconductivity's products have been applied in scenarios such as controlled nuclear fusion, medical nuclear magnetic resonance, superconducting power, and superconducting maglev.
Looking ahead, Eastern Superconductivity will continue to increase R&D investment, further leverage its own advantages, and enhance the efficiency of transforming scientific and technological innovations into practical applications. Meanwhile, the company will deepen global cooperation, join hands with industrial chain partners to promote the commercialization of applied superconductivity technology, and contribute Chinese strength to the achievement of the "dual carbon" goals!
